Progressive reform, Great Depression, and New Deal here

Looking at the scope of this course this discussion allows us to explore together these events and their interconnection in totality. We should address the repetition of historical themes.

Consider the rapid rise in industrialization of the 19th Century that led to extensive combination and ultimately to dominance of the economy, political policies, and social patterns and opportunities for individual advancement. This situation led to economic instability and frequent recessions. (Unit 2) The depression of 1893 was a disaster in unemployment, banking and business failures along with international economic adversity. It lasts 10 years.

The Progressive Era reformers move to break up large combinations, regulate banking and other areas of the economy putting limits on capitalism as a system. By 1929, another deeper depression engulfs the world with similar causative factors. How does this happen? This discussion explores this question and the purpose of the New Deal Programs in addressing the larger repetition of the theme.
