For this assignment, you will write a 3-4 page art historical analysis, by which you will place an artwork or monument into its appropriate art historical framework (contextualize it). You should write on  Alhambra , Spain,you may do some light research, focusing on OERs, online peer-reviewed journal articles, and online publications such as exhibition catalogs and books. You will need between 3-4 sources for your paper.

Once you have researched the object or monument, write a short page paper that essentially teaches about the object. In the paper you should:

    Introduce your object
    Discuss who made it
    What it looks like, what or who does it portray, or to who is the example dedicated? How can you tell?
    How it functioned
    Why it is important
    How does it relate to an Art history class? Why is it relevant?

A good example of how to do this would be to look at one of the essays in Smarthistory, such as (Neo-Confucianism and Fan Kuan, Travelers by Streams and Mountains. )

Think of it as teaching someone with absolutely no background knowledge about artwork from the course. You would need to contend not only with how the artwork looks (material, style, iconography) but also how it functioned and how that reflects something about the culture that produced and used it.

You will need to provide a bibliography of the works cited, as well as footnotes or in-text citations.
